homeSmart TVs are good for ONE thingSmart TVs are garbage. When you connect a Smart TV to the internet, it becomes a slow bloated mess (which is also capable of spying on you - shocker) BUT, they do have one good use, and that is their ability to access DLNA media servers. With just a computer, qBittorrent, and a program called miniDLNA, you can ditch Netflix and every other TRASH streaming service and save money and your personal data, while still being able to stream content to every TV, smartphone and computer in your house (if you have DLNA compatiable TVs) by making your own personal streaming server. Want a dedicated machine just for this? Just get a cheap laptop like a pre-owned ThinkPad (or even a singleboard computer like a Raspberry Pi) and an external HDD and run it on that. I used to just pirate movies and watch those movies on my computer. If I wanted to watch them on the TV, or if someone in my family wanted to watch them, then I would have to plug my external HDD into the TV. Which means I'd be unable to use it while someone else was. Watching movies on our phones wasn't even in the question. Not anymore. I plug my external HDD into my ThinkPad® and type a single alias into my terminal to start my DLNA server and now ALL of my downloaded movies and shows can be streamed to my entire family through either the TV or their phones (through the VLC app) over our local network. This was made possible and VERY SIMPLE through a piece of free and open source software called MiniDLNA. I know a lot of people already do this and that I'm a bit late to the party because I was too lazy to set it up, but it literally takes under ten minutes. If you want a convenient way to stream content to an entire household, this is the best way to do it. Do you use Plex to achieve the same thing? STOP!!!!!!! This is better. It's Linux software so if you're a Windows user you're SHIT OUTTA LUCK, SUCKER!!!!!!! and if you're a [homophobic slur] who uses Mac then maybe theres a version for you but I don't really care enough to check. And if you have one of those Smart TVs that forces you to create an account to use a DLNA server then just drill a hole through it and set it on fire. as for the little microphones in the remotes, just poke it with a needle until it dies or some shit |
