My top 20 metal bands

Okay posers here's a list of my top 20 metal bands and if you don't like it you can leave the hall. I listen to most genres and eras of metal but these are my TOP bands. Evidently i do have more of an appreciation for traditional/classic heavy metal and NWOBHM stuff, but i listen to just about every subgenre (except for shit like sabaton or nightwish)

My all time favorite band. The classics are phenomenal, peak heavy metal, I'm a huge fan of both Paul Di'Anno and Bruce Dickinson, and I enjoy the reunion stuff a lot too. Can't say I'm a huge fan of the Blaze era, but I don't hate it. I could listen to Maiden forever.

Everyone knows how good these guys are. Sabbath invented metal, but Priest perfected it. If Judas Priest isn't in your top 5 I don't even know what to say. They're old as fuck and STILL dropping better albums than 95% of modern metal bands

I often say that their 1980 debut is the greatest metal album of all time. They're nowhere near as prolific or famous as the aforementioned bands, but they're goddamn influential even if YOU'VE never heard of them, which is okay, just do yourself a favor and go listen, right now. Click here. Do it

Sick riffs. Sick bass. Acquired taste, but sick vocals. Still dropping good shit to this day. Epic is the only word fit to describe this band. CROWN UPON HIS HEAD, KING OF ALL THE DEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAD

These guys, along with Cirith Ungol and Saint Vitus, are the greatest heavy metal acts to come from the United States.

Another instance of Sabbath inventing a genre and another band perfecting it. Saint Vitus are perfect doom metal.

I've always preferred Mercyful Fate to King Diamond's other stuff. I try not to ACTUALLY judge peoples music taste, but if someone who's into metal tells me they don't like KD or Mercyful Fate, I'll raise an eyebrow

Easily a thousand times better than ALL of the American 'Big 4' of thrash metal

Smart people thrash even though I'm not very smart

I love this band. Okay, I get it, some people don't like the dated 80s sound, but I love a good power ballad, and When The Crowds Are Gone is simultaneously the greatest and most overlooked heavy metal power ballad of all time. And their less ballad-y stuff is just as good!

It's easy to brush these guys off as hair metal.... if you're a POSER. They fucking rule

I've always found the name 'Metal Church' to be kinda silly sounding. Maybe it sounded way cooler back then. Regardless, these guys are one of my favourite US thrash acts and 'The Dark' has some of the most insane riffs ever

These guys weren't super technical or talented, but they pushed metal to the extreme and were the first to do it. You can thank these guys for black metal, thrash metal and extreme metal in general.

Only two studio albums (I don't count Resurrected from 2008 because it sucks) but these guys are some of my favorite doom and they have the coolest band name ever

Probably a million other bands with this name, but the only one that matters is the British one. Another super underrated NWOBHM band, many such cases!

Alice Cooper and Marilyn Manson? Get outta town, beat it pal! MY favorite makeup-wearing man with a woman's name is Lizzy Borden. Also easy to brush off as just another glam band, but they really aren't that. Not a huge fan of their later stuff but their 80's stuff is must listen
