Finding the perfect sport to watch

For most of my life I've never been particularly interested in watching sport, but its a whole medium of entertainment that I've been completely ignoring. Frankly, I find most sports boring to watch, but sometimes that's just due to a lack of understanding of the game. For instance, growing up, everyone in my family and most if not all of my friends were heavily invested in NRL (for non Australians, it's rugby) and I simply had no interest, and not for lack of trying. Even when I tried to be interested as a kid, it never held. However, I never quite understood the rules in the first place. I knew the basics, run with the ball, don't get tackled, score a try. But that's about it, and when things happened in the game that I didn't understand, I was confused and bored. Recently I actually made an effort to demistify the game for myself and learn the rules, and as a result it's become a lot more exciting to watch. I still haven't decided which team to support as of writing this, but I'll try to figure it out before the season is over. Prior to NRL, I was quite interested in watching UFC. I would say MMA as a whole, but I really never bothered watching other promotions, aside from Pride FC stuff from way back when. The golden age of UFC was long gone by the time I got into the sport, but I became heavily invested anyways. But as more and more old school fighters retire, the talent is becoming increasingly boring. Sure, they're good at fighting, but are they good at selling a fight? Not really. And I understand that makes me sound like a casual, but it's true. I simply don't love MMA as a sport enough to watch BORING people fight. Give me a reason to support a fighter other than just "he's good". Now you might want to tell me to watch WWE if I want drama, but I was already into WWE when I was a kid. In fact, that was the first sport (if you can call it that) that I was truly into. But I grew out of it! Another sport I tried to get into was baseball, and I actually really enjoyed watching MLB, but it's just too hard to follow from Australia, and unfortunately our baseball scene is pretty nonexistent. Our people favour cricket, which I find extremely boring despite understanding the rules. How about soccer? No thanks. I tried to watch ice hockey once, couldn't tell what was happening because the tiny little puck was moving way too fast to follow on tv. Don't get me started on boxing. Do I like watching people fight? Yes. Do I like watching a six hour boxing event where almost all fights go to decision and theres about 20 straight minutes of ads between each fight? Not. One. Bit. I'll let you know how my NRL journey goes. So far so good!
